Introducing our third nominee for Standard Bearer of 2017: Nikki Hudnall!
LVN Visit Nurse Nikki is always respectful and has a positive attitude. She advocates for patients with passion and determination while being gentle in her approach. She looks for new information that will be helpful to her patients and colleagues as well as efficient ways to share this knowledge. In addition to being a positive, grateful person, Nikki is a woman of integrity who doesn’t have to think twice about doing what is right. She supports her teammates, managing up, encouraging and helping whenever she can.
Nikki made a visit to a patient whose husband called in distress while the RN Case Manager was busy with another patient. When the RN arrived some time later after fighting her way through traffic, she found Nikki not just sitting and waiting. Rather, she had taken the initiative to do everything within her power to make the patient as comfortable as possible, reassuring the husband and doing as much preparation for the RN as she could. The patient’s husband could not say enough about Nikki’s care, expertise, compassion and ability to handle a stressful situation with grace. It was a beautiful personification of the Standards of Behavior we strive to live by at Hospice Austin. Nikki is an example of these every day.
